The telecommunications industry is one of the fastest growing and developing industries in the world, and as such it is important that children are skilled in telecommunications from an early age. The internet is now playing a more and more important role in schools and the education of children, as it has opened up a whole new world of information which is readily available for children and teachers. There are also many software packages available which offer teaching programs and educational games for children of all ages and even for those with ADD. Children can learn while they play, which is often considered to be one of the best methods of retaining valuable information.

Distance learning is now becoming more and more popular, with many adults who would not have previously considered it possible to gain more qualifications or job training, can study courses from anywhere in the world, from the comfort of their own homes. Many literacy issues can be resolved in this way. Many colleges, universities, and other further education facilities are finding that more students are enrolling for online distance learning courses than are actually attending the campus in person, which has necessitated in them offering many of the same courses online as would be available in person.

There are many advantages of distance learning for adults:

• Timescale – many of these courses are available where you can learn at your own pace, which means that you are able to study around other commitments.
• Work – it is no longer necessary to give up your job in order to further your education and enhance your career prospects, you can study around work, at home, and continue to earn your salary while learning new skills, a very important aspect for many people.
• Geography – there are no limits as to which college or university where you can reasonably study, telecommunications technology means that you can have access to any study course in the world without having to live there.
• Cost – it is often much cheaper to study online than to enroll at a campus on a full time course. This is another reason why many adults opt for further education in this way.
• Age – many people would not consider entering a classroom environment again, feeling that maybe they are too old or would not fit in socially with the rest of the class, but when studying online it makes no difference. You can study at home, in your pajamas and nobody will make any assumptions due to age or appearance.
